TASTING NOTE:
Known by only a few - due to the small volumes made in only the best years, but respected by all whom have had the pleasure to share a bottle of Peter's acclaimed expression of Chardonnay. Sourced from a very special vineyard site located behind the family property in Meeanee, the vineyard is made up of different soils of silty loam, free draining and with low fertility. Consequently the selected Chardonnay clone 15 used to make this wine excels.
Only the free run juice was selected for the Marshall Bank, and this entered a blend of new and seasoned oak barrels. The wine remained in oak for a further eight months, with regular lees stirring to give a creamy complexity to the palate.
In the glass this 2007 Marshall Bank Chardonnay has a fragrant stone-fruit bouquet of peach and nectarine. Then when you move onto the palate, there is a fullness of flavour in the mid palate besieged by kinetic energy. Integrated flavours of ripe apricot, peach, toast and oak make the Marshall Bank a joy if opened today, and equally it will age.
