Wine of the Week
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio 2008
16 March 2010

Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Grigio

Growing Region: Valdadige DOC, Italy

President: Count Paolo Marzotto

TASTING NOTE:
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio is the benchmark by which all other Italian Pinot Grigios' are judged. Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio was named the leading Italian wine in the USA and continues to be requested by name in restaurants all over the world. Its crisp, elegant character makes it versatile for a wide array of cuisines. The Valdadige Pinot Grigio was harvested during the first two weeks of September and fermented at cool temperatures to retain the natural fresh characters.

Above average winter temperatures and heavy rains in the spring led to excellent conditions during the entire growing season, producing grapes with perfect ripeness. This 2008 Pinot Grigio presents a slightly higher level of natural acidity, resulting in a fresher and crispier wine.

This straw yellow wine displays precise and intense scents of white fruits (particularly pears and Golden Delicious apples) as well as delicate spicy notes. Showing its typical character of penetrating tanginess, the hallmarks of its particular taste profile, making this a wine with a very distinctive personality and surprising versatility. Serve at approx 8-10 degrees C.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well this summer; and through 2010.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with naturally served shellfish, seafood salads and with lightly flavoured tapas, enjoy.
