Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Growing Region: Martinborough, New Zealand
Owner/ Winemaker: Roger Parkinson
TASTING NOTE:
This Three Paddles Sauvignon Blanc from Martinborough is a vibrant, fruit forward style of wine that represents both the vintage and the unique style that shows a balanced expression of the best notes found in Marlborough and Hawke's Bay combined.
Unlike many styles of New Zealand Sauvignon on the market, this wine is made in a dry style which lends itself more to being matched with cuisine than being enjoyed on its own. But this said the wine is packed with bright aromatics and ripe fruit characters.
A blend of the 'Top Block' 70% and Rogers 'Home Block' 30% vineyards - the fruit was cool-fermented in stainless steel tanks, and every detail of the winemaking process focused on retaining the fruit integrity and fresh flavours.
In the glass the wine has a green/gold appearance. The bouquet exhibits typical regional characteristics of ripe passion fruit and gooseberries. On the palate the wine is fresh and full-bodied and carries ripe tropical flavours through the palate to a crisp and persistent finish. Serve at approx 10-12C.
CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well this summer; and easily through until summer next year.
SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with seafood (fish, scallops, mussels, crayfish) - lighter style cuisine and salads, enjoy.
4 Stars - Michael Coopers, NZ Buyers Guide 2010.
