Growing Region: Bannockburn - Central Otago, New Zealand

TASTING NOTE:
Pinot Noir is a grape variety that is popular with wine drinkers all over the world, and at the Pinot Noir conference in Wellington this week, will be on both the tips of tongues and taste buds for many more. The vineyards for this Akarua Pinot Noir are situated in Bannockburn on sloping alluvial terraces above Lake Dunstan and consist of light sand and schist-based soils. The heightened elevation and sunny north west aspect provides a frost free site and along with careful vineyard management ensures consistent quality.
Small parcels of fruit were fermented separately to retain individual characters from each site. The wine was racked into 30% new French oak where it underwent malolactic fermentation and barrel maturation for 11 months. Barrel lots were then individually selected to form the 'Cadence' - which means the 'rhythm of the season'.
In the glass a dense deep purple colour. The nose has complex notes of plum, bramble and spice. The palate is rich with layers of dark berry fruits supported by ripe tannins, well integrated oak and a long spicy finish.
CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well this summer; and over the next 2-3 years.
SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with lamb, pork, roasted white meats and many Italian dishes, enjoy.
5 Stars - Bob Campbell MW.
