Wine of the Week
Lake Chalice 'Raptor' Sauvignon Blanc 2009
19 January 2010

Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Growing Region: Marlborough, New Zealand

Chief Winemaker: Matt Thomson

TASTING NOTE:
Sauvignon Blanc has come a long way in New Zealand over the past 30 years. At the heart of many of these exciting changes over recent vintages has been the greater Marlborough region - and the better understanding and use of several sites to craft more complex and interesting styles of Sauvignon Blanc. This particular wine is 100% Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from the lower Wairau Valley, including first year fruit from both the Dillons Point vineyards of Tony & Melissa Burdon and their own Talon Vineyard.

To capture as much primary varietal characters, the grapes were harvested in the cool of the evening. Fermentation was controlled at low temperatures to retain the freshness and zing of the fruit.

In the glass you have a bright, straw colour. The bouquet has powerful aromas of passion-fruit and blackcurrant with hints of grapefruit. The palate is pleasingly rich and concentrated with a well balanced acidity that leads to a lingering finish. Summer in a glass. This wine is in limited release with only 523 cases made this vintage, so don't miss out. Best served at 8-12C.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well this summer and throughout 2010.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with seafood, white meats and with a goat cheese salad, enjoy.
