Wine of the Week
Waipara Hills 'Waipara' Pinot Noir 2008
06 October 2009

Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir

Growing Region: Waipara, New Zealand

Chef Winemaker: Simon McGeorge

TASTING NOTE:
The 2008 vintage in Waipara brought cooler conditions and some rain during the harvest period, which meant plenty of work bringing in the fruit all at once, but the stable and warm summer that preceded harvest, produced great flavours and aromatics.

The fruit for this Pinot Noir came from two of their Waipara vineyards; The Mound and Glasnevin. After harvest, and fermentation, the wine was then matured in stainless steel tanks to retain the fresh characters of the Pinot Noir fruit and the vintage.

The wine in the glass has a medium purple/garnet colour. The bouquet is bright with lifted forest berries, with a hint of dried herbs and spice. The palate is light to medium in weight, with lovely berry fruit flavours culminating in a light and refreshing finish that leaves you wanting more.

Serve in a Pinot Noir glass and at approx 14-16C.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking well this summer; with 15-20 minutes decanting and over the next 2-3 years.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with smoked salmon, light pasta dishes and even tapas, enjoy.

An approachable style of Pinot Noir, making many new friends.
