Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
Growing Region: Dambach la Ville, Alsace, France
Owner / Winemaker: Claude Gisselbrecht
TASTING NOTE:
As you know, I am a big fan of Riesling, and when I went to visit Claude at his family winery in Dambach a few years ago, simply by walking through the markets in the village, smelling all the local fruits, tasting the local cuisine and tasting the grapes as they came into the vineyard, I already had a picture in my mind of what Riesling from this village and part of the world should taste like.
This wine in the bottle is a perfect expression of all that is exciting about Riesling and in particular from Alsace, plus compliments perfectly with the fresh cuisine that we have on regular basis here in New Zealand.
This wine as with many of Gisselbrecht Rieslings is dry and racy. An expressive wine par excellence and most elegant, typical varietal characters of Alsace. A delicious nose, full of fruit and floral aromas, green apple, mint and grapefruit. Then you have all these floral aromas, green apple, mint and grapefruit carry onto the palate fresh and with a clean, smooth finish. Serve at 10-12C.
CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well now; and over the coming 2-3 years.
SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with fish, seafood, goat-cheese, and Asian/ Pacific infused cuisine, enjoy.
The standard others around the world try to emulate.
