11 August 2009

Growing Region: Gomersal, Seppeltsfield, Marananga, Moppa, Koonunga Hill & Ebenezer. Australia

Chief Winemaker: David Powell

TASTING NOTE:
I have said on many an occasion that a bottle of wine is a time machine, that if you are willing to listen to the wine, it will take you back to that vineyard and vintage. Visiting David at his winery in the Barossa and seeing first hand his 140+ year old dry grown, bush vines, you can't but help but experience the history of winemaking spread out in front of you. This particular wine is bold and seductive, and this youthful, unoaked blend of Rhone red varietals encapsulates all that is great in a natural, pure, unseasoned wine.

Its fragrance, intensity and energy are all reminiscent of freshly fermenting must, with ripe juicy flavours of blackberry, dark cherries, minerals and spices wrapped around a backbone of fresh acidity and finely integrated tannins.

Soft and sensuous, this wine is seriously drinkable already, but as with its predecessors will greatly reward those who choose to give it a few years development in the cellar.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking well now and over the next 4-5 years.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match for all red meats especially roast lamb, pork and Asian duck, enjoy.
