Wine of the Week
Quinta De La Rosa Ruby Port
09 June 2009

Grape Variety: Traditional varieties; Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz.

Growing Region: Alto Douro, Portugal

Consultant Winemaker: Jorge Moreira

TASTING NOTE:
One of life's - nearly forgotten pleasures, the enjoyment of a good glass of Port slightly chilled with tapas or a perfect compliment with cheese, many chocolate based desserts or even simply after a day on the ski slopes.

Quinta de la Rosa's reputation for excellent Port comes from a great location situated in the heart of the Alto Douro on the banks of the River Douro near Pinhao. Quinta de la Rosa produces small quantities of high quality Ports. A young blended Port, with a fruity clear taste and a deep rich red colour. It tends to be one of the least expensive Port styles on the market. Quinta de la Rosa's Ruby Port is unique in that it comes from 'A' graded grapes and is trodden by foot in our granite lagares. This Port has been filtered prior to bottling.

In the glass this Ruby Port has a more vibrant colour, greater depth, body and fruit than many other Rubies. The bouquet is rich with a long finish, like all the La Rosa Ports, and not too sweet, as the slight dry finish is typical of La Rosa's house style.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well this winter; why wait any longer.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match - This Port has been lightly filtered and does not require decanting, delicious with dessert or cheese.

The perfect aperitif, or accompaniment with a richly flavoured cheese.
