Wine of the Week
Lake Chalice Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008
07 April 2009

Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Growing Region: Marlborough, New Zealand

Owner/ Winemaker: Chris Gambitsis

TASTING NOTE:
Chris (aka Gambo) - must fuel himself and his Harley Davidson motorcycle on pure 100% Sauvignon Blanc juice, as like the grape variety, they both have a full tank of get-up and go. This particular wine is sourced from 7 vineyards in selected sub-regions within Marlborough, including the main Wairau Valley, the Waihopai and the Awatere Valley, to take advantage of the different characteristics each area offers. These vineyards include their own Falcon Vineyard, Quarry Block and Eyrie Vineyard, each harvested in peak condition.

The grapes were transported promptly to the winery and pressed without delay to enable minimal skin contact. Cool fermented in stainless steel tanks using selected yeasts. Only the best components were selected for their potential to add to the overall quality and complexity of the final blend.

In the glass you have a pale straw colour with green hues. The nose has intense aromas of passion-fruit and blackcurrant. These characters even sneak onto the palate, which is a crisp, medium bodied, dry wine bursting with classical varietal flavours of passion-fruit, blackcurrant and gooseberry. The mouth-watering acidity is nicely balanced by a long, elegant, mineral finish. Serve at 8-10C.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well now, and over the next 18 months.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with any fresh fish and with a goat cheese salad, enjoy.
