Grape Variety: 58% Shiraz, 32% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre
Growing Region: McLaren Vale, Australia
Owner / Senior Winemaker: Geoff Merrill
TASTING NOTE:
Geoff has achieved yet another approachable and well structured red blend that will match so many local dishes here in New Zealand. The wines intended for this blend, particularly the Grenache and Mourvedre, were given a slightly different oak treatment, with less new oak being used, and in larger barrels, which gives a more reserved oak character in the finished wine.
As a result, the subtleties of the vintage and varieties become more apparent, and the wine relies more on the strength and quality of the fruit.
The aroma is a well balanced and integrated blend of red berry fruit, earthiness, spice, white pepper and a hint of leather. The palate has a very nice round, full mouth feel with raspberries, cherries and some blackcurrant from the Shiraz, plus very good underlying tannin providing structure, backbone and length to the wine.
CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well now and over the next 2-3 years.
SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with duck, roast lamb and even some soft cheeses and crusty bread, enjoy.
