Wine of the Week
Fairhall Downs Pinot Noir 2007
10 February 2009

Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir

Growing Region: Single Vineyard, Marlborough

Winemaker: Stuart Smith

TASTING NOTE:
If you have the chance to visit Marlborough, make an effort to visit Fairhall Downs. The winery is set against a stunning background of hills and small mountains that change colour during the day and even more dramatically during the seasons.

The grapes for this single vineyard wine were hand harvested and given 3 weeks maceration to develop good depth of colour and flavour. This was then followed by ageing for 11 months in French barriques. Careful barrel selection was carried out, so as to add and complement the best balance of oak, tannin and structure to the wine as it aged in barrel and developed the final blend.

In the glass you have a deep inviting colour. On the nose you have dark summer fruit characters with subtle savoury notes and forest floor characters that originate from the wild ferment. The palate is rich with great texture and ripe tannins; the wine is well balanced and has a medium length finish. Enjoy.
