Wine of the Week
Chakana Reserve Malbec 2006
07 October 2008

Grape Variety: 100% Malbec

Growing Region: Agrelo (Lujan de Cuyo), Mendoza, Argentina

Consultant Winemaker: Alberto Antonini

TASTING NOTE:
The Chakana Reserve Range presents elegant wines with a balanced expression of fruit and oak. This 100% Malbec, had handpicked grapes sourced from 35 year old vines grown in Mendoza Argentina. After 12 days fermentation and going through malolactic, 100% of the wine had 12 months in 50% French and 50% American oak barrels to add depth and character, then a minimum of 6 months development in the bottle before labeling.

Chakana's Malbec is skilfully made from carefully grown vines from traditional old cuttings, grown at high altitude. The colour of the wine is deep red with hints of violet around the edges. On the nose you find dried plums and other dark summer berries and fruits, exotic spices, herbs with hints of violet and chocolate. The palate is rich and full, with elevated fruit tones and beautifully balanced oak and tannins round out the long finish.
