Wine of the Week
Quinta de la Rosa 'Finest Reserve' Port
24 June 2008

Grape Varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz.

Growing Region: Alto Douro, near Pinhao in Portugal

Chief Winemaker: Jorge Moreira

TASTING NOTE:
Quinta de la Rosa's reputation for excellent Port comes from a great location situated in the heart of the Alto Douro on the banks of the River Douro near Pinhao. Quinta de la Rosa produce small quantities of high quality Ports. In the past, it was called Vintage Character but the term has been disallowed. The average age of this Port can be between 4 and 6 years and is blended and bottled on a regular basis to ensure that stocks are always fresh.

Quinta de la Rosa's Finest Reserve Port is a stunning example of what can be achieved and found in non-vintage Port blends. This small Port lodge has turned out a terrific, full bodied, garnet/ruby coloured wine with a big, chocolatey, black cherry, cedary nose, full-bodied unctuously textured flavours, and a mouthful of fruit and richness, as well as an off-dry, impressive finish.

This Reserve has been lightly filtered and does not require decanting. Keeps ok after opening in a well sealed bottle and in a cool place, but as it is only 19%Alc (a fortified wine). After opening, it will only keep at its best for up to 2 months, then it will start to loose these prized characters.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking extremely well now - it should be enjoyed within 5-7 years of bottling.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect match with chocolate desserts, rich cheeses and crusty bread.

92/100 - Robert Parker Jr.
