Growing Region: Dambach and surrounding villages, Alsace
Chief Winemaker: Philippe Gisselbrecht
TASTING NOTE:
In 2006, I had the pleasure of spending time with Claude Gisselbrecht at the family winery in Alsace, right in the middle of them hastily picking grapes before the rain came down. I highly recommend a visit to Alsace if you are ever in the area. A dramatic history, a meeting point of cultures, striking architecture, diverse cuisine and exciting, aromatic, rich wines.
Gisselbrecht wines tend to be richly textured expressions of their respective grape varieties, a thrilling meeting of floral aromas, fresh fruit flavours and flinty minerality, a result of the unique 'terroir' and the attention to detail that only a century of family tradition can deliver.
As I have said on many occasions, I am a big fan of Riesling; and it is because of wines like this. An inviting bouquet, which is crisp and racy. An expressive wine par excellence and most elegant, typical varietal characters of Alsace. A delicious nose, full of fruit and floral aromas, green apples, mint and grapefruit. The floral aromas, green apple, mint and grapefruit carry onto the palate fresh and with a smooth lingering finish.
