Grape Variety: 90% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo and Colorino Toscano
Growing Region: Castellina in Chianti, Italy
Chief Winemaker: Andrea Cecchi
TASTING NOTE:
This Chianti Classico Riserva D.O.C.G. wine derives from a deep knowledge and understanding of the area of the Chianti Classico production and represents a special selection produced only in the best years. The vines are situated at an average altitude of 250 metres above sea level, planted in some of the most stunning scenery in the world. The prolonged maceration during the alcoholic fermentation, the careful pressing and the malolactic fermentation of the wine before its ageing, which is carried out partially in oak casks and partly in small oak barriques, are all carefully watched by Andrea and his team.
The period of ageing for this wine is a minimum of two years; 12 months in barrel, 18 months ageing in bottle, followed by a further 3 months in the bottle to settle after labeling and packaging. The wine is characterized by a clear and intense deep red colour. On the nose the aroma is full and persistent with hints of mature dark fruits, earthy spices and a slight smoky finish. On the palate it is concentrated and elegant with supple fruit and well integrated tannins, resulting in a long lingering finish.
CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking well now, plus will age for another 2-4 years with careful cellaring.
SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
This wine pairs well with roasts and game and can also be appreciated on its own.
