Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Gris
Growing Region: Dambach, Alsace
Chief Winemaker: Philippe Gisselbrecht
TASTING NOTE:
In 2006, I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Claude Gisselbrecht at their family winery in Alsace, right in the middle of them hastily picking these Pinot Gris grapes before the rain came down. I really recommend a visit to Alsace if you are ever in France. A dramatic history, a melting pot of cultures, striking architecture, diverse cuisine and exciting, aromatic, rich wines.
Gisselbrecht wines tend to be thickly textured expressions of their respective grape varieties, a thrilling meeting of honeyed richness and flinty minerality, a result of the unique terroir and the attention to detail that only centuries of family tradition can deliver.
This Pinot Gris is such a delight; an inviting bouquet and silky layers of fresh fruit characters on the palate. Full and powerful with complex aromas and well balanced honey, roasted almond and spices. A full bodied wine, fruit characters or pear and lychee are also present and a long lasting finish.
