Wine of the Week
Laroche Chablis 2006
04 September 2007

GRAPE VARIETIES: 100% Chardonnay

GROWING REGION: Chablis, France

HEAD WINEMAKER: Denis de La Bourdonnaye

TASTING NOTE:

The northernmost appellation of Burgundy, located approx 180km's southeast of Paris - Chablis is separated from the famous Cote d'Or by the Morvan Hills. Not only is Chablis physically isolated, but also the wines it produces are very unique and distinct compared to the rest of Burgundy's wines. The exclusive combination of its climate, fossil soils, topography, and winemaking technique all contribute to its uniqueness.

This is benchmark pure Chablis at its best - classic style and great value. It is showing clean, subtle green apples and a touch of cream on the nose. The palate is lively and refreshingly crisp, with stony notes and even a slight hint of summer nettles. When serving be careful on the temperature, chill down to only 10-12C so as not to hide all the delicate characters and enjoy with good friends.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:

Approachable now and will cellar for the next 3-5 years.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:

A perfect aperitif or an excellent match with salads, seafood (oysters).
