The signs are good for a high quality vintage.
03 March 2008

This year's grapes harvest in New Zealand is nearly underway for most regions and whopper volumes are expected. The first grapes of the season were picked a week ago in Gisborne and this years harvest will continue through until at least mid-May.

'New Zealand Winegrowers' are predicting up to 245,000 tonnes to be harvested, compared with just over 200,000 last year.

They say wine exports in 2007 were up 24% to around $760 million on the previous year. This figure is expected to balloon to around $1 billion dollars by 2010.

Most wine regions are commenting that the prolonged dry weather this summer should help to create a high quality vintage, so far the signs are all good.
