1. The Argentine Wine Industry is the 5th largest producer in the world. Following in order: Italy, France, Spain and United States.

2. Historically the Argentine winemakers were more interested in quantity than quality. The majority of this volume was considered 'unexportable'.

3. The start of vinification in Argentina was in Santiago del Estero in 1557, during the Spanish colonization of the Americas.

4. The leading production region is Mendoza. This area has a hire planted acreage than both New Zealand and Australia combined.

5. The most widely planted red grape variety in Argentina is Malbec, followed by Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tempranillo.
