Jules Taylor 'Late Harvest' Sauvignon Blanc 2014
30 March 2015

Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Growing Region: Marlborough, New Zealand

Owner / Winemaker: Jules Taylor

TASTING NOTE:
To source ideal fruit for this 2014 'Late Harvest' Sauvignon Blanc, Jules returned to the same block that was so successful in 2011. The late rain during April produced ideal conditions to achieve high levels of botrytis, with approximately 95% of the grapes being affected. Resulting in wonderfully dehydrated berries that provided Jules with intensely flavoured and viscous juice.

Jules carefully hand-picked each bunch and individual berries one cold morning in late April. The raisined berries were crushed and gently pressed a first time. The juice from the initial pressing, was chilled and returned back to the press, allowing the skins to 'soak', thus when pressed for a second time obtaining a little more of the precious nectar. The viscous juice was then settled and due to the high levels of sugar, was very slowly fermented in a small stainless steel tank. After tasting the finished wine was finally bottled in August and released in September 2014.

A golden yellow colour and glowing hue fill your glass. Some 6 months after release, this wine is still showing aromas of ripe stone-fruits, honeysuckle and orange zest. The palate is decadently sweet with concentrated flavours of ripe mandarin, nectarine and honey with subtle hints of citrus. A backbone of natural acidity from the Sauvignon Blanc cuts through the mouth-coating sweetness to balance out the intensely lifted flavours to give this luscious wine a perfectly refreshing finish. Chill and serve at 8-10C.
