Wine of the Week
Marques de Caceres Rosado 2013
16 February 2015

Grape Variety: 85% Tempranillo & 15% Garnacha

Growing Region: Rioja, Spain

Owner/ Director: Cristina Forner

TASTING NOTE:
The selected grapes parcels were hand-picked separately - were grown on gentle slopes in Cenicero and in Rioja Alavesa. The vines are a mixture of 15-20 years of age and grown at different altitudes in mainly clay and limestone soils.

The Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes were vinified separately. As the parcels came into the winery they were de-stemmed, crushed and with only a short period of skin contact of between 8-10 hours to achieve this bright coral pink colour in the juice. Fermentation then took place at a temperature of 16-18C. To retain the natural vibrancy, the lifted flavours and mouth feel, the wine did not under malolactic fermentation. The wine was then rested in stainless steel tanks for only a short period - being bottled just a few months after harvest.

In the glass you and your guests will need sunglass for the bright coral pink colour that will shine in your glass. On the nose you will find redcurrants, wild young strawberries, raspberries, cranberries and floral notes.

On the palate the wine is deliciously mouth-filling, expressing those fresh vibrant red fruits, which are bright and ever so lifted. The Marques de Caceres rose is an international benchmark for other rose wines, always expressing balance and elegance. This 2013 vintage has bright fruits and crisp natural acidity creating a wine with focused palate flavours and surprising length to the finish. A lively, refreshing and a most versatile rose wine. Chill and serve at 8-10C.
