Wine of the Week
Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio 2013
09 February 2015

Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Grigio

Growing Region: Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

Chief Winemaker: Massimiliano Luison

TASTING NOTE:
For over 50 years Santa Margherita has been inspiring winemakers to express the bright personality and characters of the pink-hued Pinot Grigio grapes grown in the Trentino - Alto Adige wine region of northern Italy. With their fist vintage back in 1961 - they combined traditional winemaking with sparkling wine techniques. Thus creating a vibrant white wine: with a fresh and fragrant bouquet and a lively palate: creating a revolution for the region and as a wine style.

On arrival into the winery, the carefully selected fruit had a soft pressing; the must was then fermented for approximately 10-15 days at 18C. Once fermentation was deemed complete, the wine was stored at a controlled temperature of 15-16C in specifically designed stainless steel tanks for further development, until it was time for filtering and bottling.

As you pour the wine into your glass, you are greeted by a bright straw colour, with a citrus lime glow. On the nose the wine is bright, with intense aromas and crisp green apples, elegant hints of quince and lifted citrus notes. These characters carry through onto the well structured palate accompanied by ripe green pears and a characteristic mineral note. Making this 2013 Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio - a fresh wine, full of delicate, citrus flavours which lingering nicely. Chill and serve at 8-10C.
