Grape Variety: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Merlot
Growing Region: Colchagua Valley, Chile
Owner / Head Winemaker: Aurelio Montes
TASTING NOTE:
For over 25 years Aurelio and Montes wines has been a leading light of Chilean winemaking, producing outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon from grapes from their famous Colchagua Valley and one of the most respected wines of Chile.
Montes craft varietal honest and technically sound wines, and this Chilean Cabernet is a prime example. With this wine being vinified to exacting standards and precise detail, extracting both ripe berry flavours and terroir characters - then being aged for 12 months in new and used French oak barrels. The resulting wine is well balanced, with rich fruit flavours, a full mouth feel and rich texture approachable in its youth, though will repay several years of further development.
In the glass you are greeted by a deep, rich red coloured wine. On the nose this wine has an elegant, complex and intense aroma of wild violets and dark fruits, including those of ripe blackberries, cassis, bitter chocolate, black pepper and tobacco notes.
This 2010 Cabernet has great complexity, varietal flavour and mouth feel, the palate is balanced with well-integrated oak, medium to full-bodied with grippy tannins. The time in oak lends vanilla and coffee notes, producing a wine in perfect balance with real finesse and character. It is composed, harmonious and packs brilliant fruit integrity, leaving you well satisfied. This is an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon with a remarkably long finish. Decant for 45 minutes and serve at 17-18C.
