Grape Variety: 92% Carmenere, 8% Petit Verdot
Growing Region: Apalta & Colchagua Valley, Chile
Owner / Winemaker: Aurelio Montes
TASTING NOTE:
This dynamic wine is a blend of 92% Carmenere and 8% Petit Verdot, aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels - and with all his wines - touched by the wings of an angel - a purple angel. Purple Angel is a blend of their best Carmenere selected from two estates - with 50% sourced from Apalta and the other 50% coming from their Marchigue Estate.
The grapes were carefully hand-picked early in the morning retaining a cool temperature when they crushed the fruit. During the 18 months of aging in new French oak barrels, the wine was racked 3 times to remove tired lees, and allow a small amount of oxygen to assist with the wines evolution and maturation. When the final blend was made, only clear wine was used so no need for filtration or fining going unfiltered into the bottle. The wine was rested for 1 year before release onto the market.
In the glass you have an intense purple colour. On the nose you will be greeted by a good concentration of spice, dark fruits, combined with dark chocolate. These notes all carry through helping to lengthen the palate along with a hint of tobacco and a subtle smoky note due to its time in oak. This wine is blended with a touch of Petit Verdot to heighten its structure, give a lift in colour and even enhance the black fruits and berries on the aroma and mid-palate. This wine is full bodied, with a balanced amount of rounded tannins giving a friendly grip and good structure to this wine and a long and persistent finish. Serve at 16-18C.
