Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Growing Region: Martinborough, New Zealand
Owner / Winemaker: Roger Parkinson
TASTING NOTE:
Roger prides himself on doing the small things well at all stages of crafting his range of wines. Working in Martinborough vineyards that he either owns or has complete control - and during another exciting vintage, he has shaped a concentrated Chardonnay packed with ripe summer flavours. This 2013 Chardonnay was again sourced from three local vineyard sites - that included 56% from the Top Block, 12% from the Teagle Block and 32% from their Home Block vineyard.
After careful harvesting and pressing - the juice underwent 100% barrel fermentation in tight-grained French oak barriques (with 20% being new oak). Then 20% of the wine went through malolactic fermentation adding another dynamic to the palate. All of the oak barrels were lee-stirred monthly, with the wine spending a total of 10 months developing and maturing in oak before blend and bottling.
In the glass this wine has a pale, green gold colour. On the nose you have a vibrant and inviting Martinborough Chardonnay expressing lifted, ripe stone-fruit notes. The palate is full and rich and complimented nicely the subtle French oak characters. The malolactic fermentation and time in barrel has developed complex layers which have integrated well - giving the wine a long and lingering finish. This wines has 13.5% alcohol, cool decant for 15 minutes and serve at 10-12C.
