Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Gris
Growing Region: Marlborough, New Zealand
Chief Winemaker: Matt Thomson
TASTING NOTE:
This vibrant 2013 Pinot Gris is sourced from vineyards in the best areas of the greater Wairau Valley wine growing region. A dominant proportion comes from their own Eyrie Vineyard in the Lower Waihopai, plus parcels of fruit from the Omaka Valley and Rapaura District. This combination of unique vineyard sites adds layers and complexity to the finished wine. But caring on from the successful previous vintage - this wine is complemented with additional fruit parcels hence the name 'Block Two'.
The chosen fruit was crushed and pressed immediately after harvesting and fermented at a carefully controlled cool temperature to retain the wine's lifted aromas and palate. A period of time on its own gross lees plus a very small proportion fermented in barrel has added a subtle biscuit character to the wine.
In the glass you are greeted by a bright, yet still soft straw colour. Early in its development that wine has a lifted stone-fruit aroma with a touch of spice. The palate is round and soft, enhanced by having a small portion of the blend aged for three months in oak barrels. This has added a touch of spice and biscuit notes to this full, rich long wine, made in an off-dry style - with balance fruit, subtle residual sugar and natural acidity giving the wine a refreshing finish. Chill and serve at 8-10C.
