Wine of the Week
Marques de Caceres Rosado 2012
17 February 2014

Grape Variety: 100% Tempranillo

Growing Region: Rioja, Spain

Chief Winemaker: Fernando Gomez

TASTING NOTE:
Marques de Caceres is internationally recognised as the leading producer of quality Rioja wines and is one of the best ambassadors for Spanish wines worldwide. The summer in 2012 was quite favourable in their vineyards with many sunny days, and ideal temperatures for grape development and ripening. The grapes were macerated for several hours after which the 'must' was separated from the skins, to begin the slow process of fermentation at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then stabilized by refrigeration management, with this Rose wine not seeing any time in oak.

This rose was made exclusively from Tempranillo grapes using the free-run sangrado (saignee) method (i.e. less contact with the skins), and is one of the traditional wines at Marques de Caceres with an extensive range of wine-pairings.

In the glass this rose has a coral pink colour. On the nose you will find pleasant aromas of strawberries & raspberries that mingle with subtle floral notes. On the palate the wine is deliciously full, delivering fleshy, juicy and vibrant red fruit characters that are ever so refreshing. The Marques de Caceres rose has become a reference point amongst other winemakers in the region, always expressing elegance. The bright fruit and natural acidity have created a wine with highlight long-lasting flavours and good length on the finish. Chill and serve at 8-10C.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:
Drinking perfectly well this summer season; and through until the end of 2014.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:
Perfect wine match with fish paella, sushi and slightly seasoned summer salads, enjoy.

A vibrant and elegant rose.
