Grape Varieties: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay
Growing Region: Reims, France
Chief de Cave: Thierry Roset
TASTING NOTE:
Thierry Roset is now the new 'Chef de Cave' at Charles Heidsieck and works closely with Regis Camus - as this current Rose cuvee was crafted by Regis and his relentless pursuit of quality.
This Rose gets is colour and lifted personality from a small addition of still red wine before secondary fermentation. Prolonged contact between the lees and the wine has perfected its harmony. The wines are kept for a minimum of three years then after disgorgement, they are kept another three to six months before they are ready to be opened and enjoyed.
The wines delicate and vivacious bubbles are the result of that ageing period I mentioned of over 36 months. In the glass the Champagne has a sophisticated soft pink robe with luminous glints of wild rose. A base of 20% of reserve wines, both white and red grape wine, gives this rose blend a subtle, yet complex personality.
The initial fragrances on the nose are from the added elegant red wine which is redolent of home-made strawberry jam mixed with the flavours of blood peach. On the palate there are rich warm notes of gingerbread and cinnamon. The mouth-feel is rich and powerful offering a burst of wild strawberry, raspberry and blackberry nestled in velvet sorbet characters leaving you with a bright and refreshing finish. Chill and serve at 8-10C.
