Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
Growing Region: Marlborough, New Zealand
Owner / Winemaker: Stephen White
TASTING NOTE:
The fruit for this Fallen Angel Riesling was selected from vines grown in the Wairau and Waihopai Valleys in Marlborough.
Each individually selected parcel of fruit was separately crushed and pressed in the early morning in Marlborough, with the chilled juice then being transported up to the winery on Waiheke Island to complete its transformation. The first parcel harvested and processed into wine had an incredible citrus (lime & lemon) character. On the palate a focused and concentrated minerality was revealed. The next two parcels were broad and flavour rich in palate weight, with extremely rich tropical aromatics. All the fruit was 100% fermented in stainless steel tanks, using three different yeast strains and a range of ferment temperatures, to retain the pure fruits expression. The various components are then blended together, producing a wine that expresses that great citrus and ripe stone-fruit flavours balanced with natural acidity and minerality that is the hallmark of classic Riesling.
In the glass you are greeted by a pale gold straw colour, with a green hue. On the nose lifted aromas of orange blossom, fresh lime zest and honeycomb. The palate is concentrated, with its sweet core of fruit, perfectly complement by the beautiful mineral notes and acidity developing a finish that is lively and persistent. Chill and serve at 8C.
