Hot buttered rum is a mixed drink containing rum, butter, hot water or cider, a sweetener, and various spices (usually cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves). It is especially popular in autumn and winter and is traditionally associated with the northern hemispheres holiday season. In the United States, the drink has a venerable history which dates back to colonial days.
This is a delicious version made with the world's oldest rum brand Mount Gay and the most awarded rum in the world Mount Gay Extra Old. This drink is so easy to make and hard to mess up - perfect for a long winters night or after a long day on the mountain.
Ingredients:
60ml Mount Gay Rum Extra Old
1 Cinnamon Stick
2 Cloves
Freshly grated nutmeg
1 tsp soft brown sugar
1 slither of fresh vanilla pod
Small pinch of dried chilli
1 pod of Star anise
10 cm x 1 cm of Lemon peel
Juice of half a Lemon
Boiling water
1 tsp Butter
Method:
Add Mount Gay Rum Extra Old, sugar and spices to a heat proof glass. Heat the glass from underneath then ignite. Roll glass; extinguish the flame with some boiling water. Add Lemon juice to your desired heat proof serving glass and add heated mixture. Top with boiling water and add butter.
