Wine of the Week
Fairhall Downs Marlborough Chardonnay 2007
09 September 2008

Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay

Growing Region: Estate grown in Marlborough.

Chief Winemaker: Stuart Smith

TASTING NOTE:
Fairhall Downs Family Estate is a family owned and operated Marlborough wine company, proudly specialising in premium, single vineyard wines. A market leader epitomising the 'small is beautiful' philosophy.

This is a single estate grown wine, hand-harvested from the low yielding clone 95 Chardonnay vines. Only those barrels that meet the required standard are selected for the Fairhall Downs label with the remaining wine being declassified and sold as bulk wine.

This is a style designed to express the inherent and unique characters of the vineyard. This wine was fermented in seasoned French oak barriques, using indigenous yeast and fine lees ageing for 10 months prior to bottling without fining.

The wine is clear and bright in the glass. On the nose you have hints of citrus and nectarine characters. The palate is full and rich with good texture and integration of French oak - and finishing with a crisp mineral acidity. Simply good drinking.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:

Drinkable now, yet with intensify with careful cellaring over the next 3-4 years.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:

This pairs well with Seafood with a butter sauce, Chicken, Veal, Turkey, enjoy.
