Wine of the Week
Nugan Estate M.V. 'Parish Vineyard' Shiraz 2004
22 May 2007

GRAPE VARIETIES: 100% Shiraz

GROWING REGION: Parish Vineyard, McLaren Vale

HEAD WINEMAKER: Daren Owers

TASTING NOTE:

The warm days and cool nights of the McLaren Vale provided excellent fruit quality for this 1000 case, single vineyard offering from Nugan Estate.

The soils in the Parish Vineyard are mainly loam with a bit of gravel. The fruit was crushed and destemmed, primary fermentation took aprox 6 days; it was then bag pressed and racked; seeded for malolactic fermentation for 2 weeks then transferred to barrels. This wine has been 100% barrel matured in a combination of 30% French and 70% American oak for 15 months. On the nose there is a presence of sandalwood and coconut. The palate has a solid core of ripe blackberry fruit, spice box and fruitcake, with a well balanced textured and long lingering finish. Australian Shiraz at it's best.

CELLARING POTENTIAL:

Drinking now and can be enjoyed over the next 4-5 years.

SUGGESTED FOOD MATCHES:

Button mushrooms with Chorizo sausage and herbed vinegar.
