Wine of the Week
Matawhero Single Vineyard Gisborne Pinot Rose 2016
30 November 2016

The juice for the Rosé was syphoned from the Pinot Noir cool soak prior to fermentation once the colour and flavour had reached the perfect intensity for this style. Light pink with a hint of orange in colour. Floral aromas of strawberry and cherries. The palate conveys strawberries and cream with a lovely dry finish. A lovely aperitif or enjoy with Summer salads and seafood.

The grapes for this wine were carefully selected from the Tietjen vineyard. The clone used here is Dijon 777 and the vines are carefully managed to produce a quality table wine. With only two canes laid down for the growing season, the lower yields ensured early ripeness with intense flavours. After another good season, the Pinot Noir grapes in Gisborne exhibited wonderfully ripe flavours and intense colour. Not only did these grapes yield great table wine, but also a vibrant Summery Ros. The juice for the Ros was syphoned from the Pinot Noir cool soak prior to fermentation once the colour and flavour had reached the perfect intensity for this style.
