Grape Variety: 90% Sangiovese, 10% other red grapes
Growing Region: The hills of Montepulciano, Italy
Head Winemaker: Andrea Cecchi
TASTING NOTE:
A constant awareness of tradition to show the true terroir from which this wine comes - combined with modern techniques and 2 years of ageing in oak deliver a unique 'Nobile' wine which is a captivating experience for the palate - and with each new sip and you will better understand the viticultural traditions and character of Montepulciano.
The vines grow on gentle slopes some 350 metres above sea level and approximately 100km's inland from the coast. The grapes were harvested in the first ten days of October - and were traditional treated with temperature-controlled skin contact and fermentation occurred in a combination of small and medium sized stainless steel tanks at 28C for about 21 days. The wine was then transferred to small oak barrels for 24 months before tasting the final wine and being bottled within 28 months after the harvest and then rested in bottle for 3 months before release.
This is arguably one of the great wines of Tuscany, fully expressing all the elegance of the Sangiovese grape. In the glass you are greeted by a deep ruby red colour with a soft garnet hue to the edge of the wine. On the nose you have an intense aroma of dark fruits, purple violets and dried spice. On the palate the 'Vino Nobile' has a full and confident mouth feel of ripe dark fruits, with well integrated tannins, harmonious oak notes giving the wine a lingering and persistent finish. Decant for 30-45 minutes and serve at 16-18C.
