GRAPE VARIETIES: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot
GROWING REGION: Ohiti Estate & Tuki Tuki Valley, Hawkes Bay
HEAD WINEMAKER: Peter Robertson
TASTING NOTE:
Brookfields 'Gold Label' Cabernet/ Merlot doesn't go chasing awards, but awards and accolades just keep coming with every vintage. Brookfields has only exhibited twice the 'Gold Label' in National Wine Shows in the last seventeen years, both times winning a Gold Medal. The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit was grown in the Ohiti Valley which is north of Roys Hill, adjacent the Ngaruroro River. The Merlot comes from the Tuki Tuki valley, and once again it is a northerly facing aspect.
True 'Quality' is when a reputation has been earned by consistant high standards of workmanship, repsected by others in the same field for many years. The 2004 Gold label Cabernet Merlot is a 'Grande Marque' in wine terms. It is the result of thirty years of craftsmanship by Peter. Rich in colour the palate is supercharged with cassis, blackberry, and leather, all finely tuned by eighteen months in new French oak barriques. Marques survive the test of time, so will the 2004 Brookfields Reserve Gold Label Cabernet/ Merlot.
