Pol Roger NV Brut Reserve Champagne was the tipple of choice for the wedding reception of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace on 29th April 2011.
Patrice Noyelle: President of Pol Roger Champagne, commented on the honour:
"It has been quite difficult to maintain secrecy since we were first advised by the Royal Household that magnums of our Brut Reserve would be served at the reception following the wedding. We are already privileged to hold a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and, as a small family company, it is an even bigger honour for one of our champagnes to be selected for this special occasion."
Some 650 guests attended a reception at Buckingham Palace following the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton in London. Pol Roger was sipped before the sit-down meal prepared by Anton Mosimann and hosted by Prince Charles.
Pol Roger has a long and honourable association with the British aristocracy. It was the favourite Champagne of Sir Winston Churchill, and in 1984 Pol Roger released the first 'Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill' in his honour.
Queen Elisabeth II is well known for offering her guests a glass of Champagne Pol Roger white foil as an aperitif during state occasions (perhaps because it was the favourite brand of her first prime minister Winston Churchill).
England drinks more Pol Roger than any other country, largely thanks to its relationship with former British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. Some months after the liberation of Paris, he received an invitation to a luncheon given by the British ambassador to France. At the lunch he met the charming Odette Pol Roger, who became a life long friend.
On the death of Sir Winston Churchill, in 1965, Pol Roger ordered black-bordered labels to be placed on their labels. In 1984 they introduced a prestige cuvee named after him and made it in the robust, mature style he liked.
A Champagne fit for a Prince and Princess.
