New Zealand Pinot Noir:
Pinot Noir grapes are native to Burgundy and are known to be incredibly fickle to grow and cultivate. In New Zealand, this grape has found a home away from home.
Pinot Noir is now the second largest grape variety in production volume, behind only Sauvignon Blanc.Total New Zealand Pinot Noir production in 2014 was 36,000 tonnes. This equated to 8% of the total wine production in New Zealand during that year.
It is commonly thought that New Zealand Pinot Noir treads a balanced line between the Old World structure and elegance whilst delivering the powerful, fruit-driven intensity that is expected from New World wine.
