Cocktail of the Week
Raspberry Sidecar
28 September 2010

In 1946, the outstanding American journalist and historian Lucius Beebe wrote that the Side Car was invented in the 1920's at the Ritz hotel in Paris by Frank Meier, a former barman of Hoffman House in New York. The luxury version at the Ritz was made with Cointreau and a Grande Champagne cognac from 1865. This cognac had been found in the cellars of the Ritz, supplied by the house of Remy Martin.

The Sidecar has become one of the most famous cocktails in bars around the world. This version has a slightly sweeter twist with the addition of Raspberry Syrup and an optional sugar rim.

INGREDIENTS:
45ml Remy Martin V.S.O.P

15ml Cointreau

20ml Lemon Juice

20ml Raspberry Syrup

METHOD:
Add all ingredients to a Boston shaker and shake well with ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

GARNISH:
Garnish with a freshly sliced lemon wedge on the rim, and optional sugar rim - if you like yours on the sweet side.
