Sandeman is a historic name in Port and Sherry wines, founded in 1790 by Scottish entrepreneur George Sandeman. Known for quality and innovation, it was among the first to brand barrels with a hot iron stamp. Over time, the company expanded to Vila Nova de Gaia, where its Port has aged for over 200 years.
Tawny is the name given to Australias most popular fortified wine style, formerly known as Tawny Port. Australia recently agreed to discontinue the use of the term Port in line with international labelling agreements, with Port now used exclusively by the Portuguese.
Much like the careful control around the conditions of Port classification, Sherry or Jerez is a Spanish fortified white grape wine style preserved in a Protected Designation of Origin. The Sherry Triangle surrounds its birthplace and namesake; Jerez de La Frontera where all Sherry must be made in order to be sold within the European Union. Outside of Europe, no wine labelled as any variation on Sherry may be imported.
