Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Growing Region: Seaview Vineyard, Marlborough, New Zealand
Chief Winemaker: Tamra Washington
TASTING NOTE:
The Seaview vineyard is producing some very fresh and vibrant varietal characters. The rolling contours of the property result in significant variations in character of the grapes - smaller, more intense flavours from the ridge sites, are balanced by lush fruit in the gully areas.
Tamra carefully monitors each unique site as to when to harvest each parcel of Sauvignon Blanc and ferments these parcels individually.
After harvesting and fermentation of each parcel, Tamra then selected 14 parcels for this 2009 Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc. A long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks over four weeks ensured optimal fruit characteristics were captured and maintained. Post fermentation the wines were racked off fine lees and left to rest. After a lengthy blending session to determine the blend components the wines were then blended, stabilised and filtered ready for bottling.
The nose for this 2009 Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc shows lifted blackcurrant notes underpinned by guava and fresh herbal aromas. The palate is full and structured and exudes fresh herbs, nettle and a long, mineral note finish.
