TASTING NOTE:
Every day you read about exciting developments going on in the world of wine, most of the time this ground break news happens overseas and the opportunity to taste the wine can be as difficult as actually visiting the winery itself. But with Yealands, this exciting news is happening in our own backyard in Marlborough and the opportunity to taste these exciting new wines is as easy as popping into your local fine wine retailer.
This wine comes from their Seaview vineyard - which is exposed to some of the toughest growing conditions in Marlborough; high sunshine and wind, cool nights and low rainfall which produces a smaller, thicker skinned berry with intense fruit flavours. Grapes were selectively harvested and parcels kept separate through to blending.
The fruit was chilled, pressed (with the free run juice kept separate), prior to racking and fermentation. All parcels underwent a long cool fermentation at 10-12 degrees Celsius for a month. One component was stopped to ensure richness and acidity was in balance. The parcels were then blended prior to a light fining and bottling.
The bouquet has fresh lemongrass; apple and citrus notes dominate the aroma and follow onto the palate. Refreshingly crisp acidity is well balanced with the natural richness of the premium grapes, with lingering citrus notes on the finish.
